The EJOT DELTA PT® screw is a special fastening element designed for reliable and easy direct assembly into thermoplastics. Its optimum design is the result of a long-term R&D programme in combination with experience of using DELTA PT® in the field for the direct assembly of even highly loaded thermoplastic materials. It has a wide range of possible uses, including all kinds of industrial applications, but it is in the automotive industry where the DELTA PT® screw has established itself as a dependable solution. This is through a design able to accommodate the very high loads which components used in automotive applications often have to withstand.
To help achieve the ideal assembly, EJOT provides a valuable online prognosis programme to assist designers – the EJOT® DELTA CALC. This programme has been developed using data on the mechanical parameters of many thousands of applications and test assemblies, making it extremely useful for the pre-dimensioning of direct assembly into thermoplastics. Stored within the tool are the fastening parameters of the DELTA PT® screw according to material and pilot hole dimension, which helps designers save time during the design stage of a component.
One of the most important factors in the performance reliability of the EJOT DELTA PT® is its special thread geometry. This was developed by closely analysing the material displacement during thread-forming. The result is a flank angle which reduces the radial stress compared to common thread flanks with 60° angles. The respective 20° or 30° angles of DELTA PT® generate only slight radial stress enabling a thin-walled design to be realised. The thread flank also guarantees optimum material flow of the formed plastic even with reinforced thermoplastic. The ideal pitch of the DELTA PT® screw was determined by the balanced ratio of highest possible clamp load and low surface pressure in the plastic, which achieves very high thread engagement even at small installation depths.
